Garden Kitchen, Newcastle – Autumn Menu Review*

An often overlooked hidden gem in Newcastle has got to be Garden Kitchen in Eldon Garden, Newcastle. A lot of people just think of it as a coffee shop in a shopping centre, but run by Fresh Element, it actually serves up some impressive food.

They recently launched their new Autumn menu so I thought I’d head in to check it out!

I’d previously tried their picnics – AMAZING (review here), which the restaurant is quite famous for. However, I thought I’d sample something different this time.

I have to say, before we go on to the fun eating part, that one of the best things about the venue is the seating and atmosphere. The waiters are friendly, knowledgable and the space is light, comfy and stylish.

Before we were tempted by our mains, we had a lazy Sunday afternoon round of drinks. Golden Plover for the IPA lover and a Black Forest Martini – recommended by our waiter and something I couldn’t resist. Very thankful for the recommendation too, as it was so moreish.

My food weakness is Sweet Potato Fries, whenever I see them I have to have them, so we picked those and a Garden salad as our sides.

The Chuck burger was reported as a ‘good, solid burger’ with ‘the pickles are amazing’.

My healthy meze plate was simply incredible. I knew Garden Kitchen would deliver on this as they are honestly sooo good at salads. Speaking from someone who NEVER orders salads at restaurants, usually cos they’re so wimpy, this was just divine. I mean just look at it. It makes you feel healthy and hungry just from the pic!

My verdict on the sweet potato fries? Well, we pretty much were fighting over each frie. Tasty stuff.

We finished off with the brownie and scones with jam & clotted cream, though sadly I have to say the brownie defeated us with its intense richness.

Thanks for reading and ciao for now!
