The Bank Lowfell has relaunched recently and invited some of us bloggers and media folk along for a taster night out like no other. It’s now under new ownership and the place has had a fantastic makeover.

The venue itself is warm and inviting but spacious. The decor is smart and sophisticated. It’s a great place to come with friends but also perfect for a romantic meal.

The chef Lee Walker spoilt us that night with what seemed like a million courses. We started with a trio of starters including garlic and chilli king prawns, creamed mushroom bruschetta and charred BBQ chicken.

I would highly recommend ordering this if you head here. It’s from a 100 year old recipe and made with seasonal fish, creamed potatoes topped with a gruyere crust. It was just divine.

This was followed by a Champagne sorbet which helped cleanse the palate. Only issue? I could have eaten a carton of this, it was so refreshing and light!

I’ve not even started on the main yet. For our main course, we were spoilt with three varieties of steak – rump, fillet and ribeye, all locally sourced and aged for 21 days and some tasty lamb. These were served with Parisian potatoes, kale and hand cut chips.

Incredibly fluffy and crisp on the outside. It’s all about the beef dripping and triple cooking trick here. I even tried to capture how fluffy it was on camera – but seriously. Go in. Try.

Finally, though we didn’t think we’d fit any more in (sooo shouldn’t have worn a belt), we ended the evening with an assiette of desserts which included a rich chocolate orange tart, gorgeous sticky toffee pudding and poached pear with amaretto ice cream.

What was great about the place was that the staff were so welcoming, friendly and knowledgable. The Bank feels like one big family establishment. I loved the fact that the staff make up mocktails too, based on the flavours you like. Ask for something mango-ey and tropical, because this THIS was sensational!

Overall, a terrific night. I highly recommend making the journey over. I’ll be heading back soon to try out their Sunday lunch myself or going back to have the fish pie, chips and all the drinks I devoured on the night too. Hope to see you there!

Check out their website for menus, opening times and how to get there and get booking in pronto.
