So for those who might not know, I’ve quit my job and am leaving to go travel the world!
It’s now less than a week to go before I start my Round the World trip so I thought I’d share with you, what on earth I packed for that long a journey. Hope this helps any of you with how and what to pack for such an adventure.
As I’ve only a 55L backpack, I have to ensure I pack light. I’m going across various climates too, from the cold mountains of Nepal to the sunny climates of Thailand so I need to ensure that what I’m taking works across the different months and countries.
First of all, I’ve bought an amazing rucksack as well as some waterproof compression dry sacks by Exped. The four different sized dry sacks help compartmentalise my luggage and also keeps everything dry and tidy. I’ve used the largest, a 13L one for my clothes. Look how small it has condensed! So basically this is everything I’m taking with me clothes wise for the 7 months of travel.
Apart from these, I have three other dry bags:
and outside of that, I’ve a few other bits and pieces:
1) Day bag (with camera, book, food, sunglasses, tissues etc)
2) Toiletry Bag (Lush shampoo bar, Dr Bronners (showergel/shampoo/laundry wash), Mosquito spray, Suntan lotion, deodorant, toothbrush&paste, small jar of Coconut cream)
3) Miscellaneous e.g. glasses, microfibre towel, sink plug, swimming cossie, hairbrush, documents
4) 3 pairs of shoes = 1 pair of tough sandals, 1 smart barefoot foldable flats (similar one here) and some tough waterproof but lightweight hiking shoes (similar here)
So back to the clothing! Firstly, here’s what I’ve got as outerwear…
I have two jackets. One fully waterproof blue jacket that rolls up into a small mesh bag (similar one here) , a warm feather purple jacket that folds into a pocket that zips up as above (similar one here) and also pictured above a pair of grey walking trousers that again folds into its own pocket, and also has zip off legs so it can transform into a pair of shorts. Whilst out shopping, I made sure to look for things that would be easy to pack, work well and were also durable.
For warmth, I have the following:
For pants, I’ve packed only the North Face trousers mentioned above, these shorts and a pair of light khaki trousers, both from Primark. I’ve added a Merino wool baselayer leggings that I’m using as PJs but I can also wear underneath trousers for when it’s super cold.
Don’t forget the major trick is to roll roll roll! Honestly, it saves so much space. I’ve packed two t-shirts, one long sleeved top and one dress.
So that’s it! I’ve been quite strict with myself, the only thing I’m going overboard with is medication, in which I’d rather be more safe than sorry! Don’t forget, you’ll be able to shop on the way too so if you do pack light and find you might need a few things, there’s no need to fret. It’s better than leaving a trail of clothes when you’ve overpacked behind you!
Thanks for reading and hope you found this post useful. Ciao for now – world, here I come! x
